Roswell recently hosted their annual Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk. This year\u00a0in honor of Teresa McCreary, who passed away in February.\u00a0This event is a fundraiser\u00a0for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.\u00a0Babies born with\u00a0an extra\u00a0chromosome in the 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0pair have Down Syndrome, resulting in developmental delays and intellectual disability.\u00a0Roswell is fortunate to have had a mother, Teresa McCreary, whose son Keagan was born with Down Syndrome.\u00a0She attended various functions around the state and country to learn as much as she could\u00a0to create a system of support for\u00a0individuals with Down Syndrome in Southeast New Mexico.\u00a0In 2005,\u00a0she hosted the first Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome.\u00a0Thanks to Teresa, there is a Down Syndrome Foundation of Southeast New Mexico office in Roswell.\u00a0The Buddy Walk has since changed its name to Step\u00a0Up for Down\u00a0Syndrome, but the goal is the same.\u00a0The Foundation provides knowledge, guidance, and support to families\u00a0impacted\u00a0by Down Syndrome.
