Balancing school, family, work, and a personal life feels like juggling flaming torches, exciting but risky. Life as a student, mom, wife, and worker while maintaining a 4.0 GPA may seem impossible, but it’s not. Some days can be overwhelming, but I’ve learned that motivation isn’t about perfection; it’s about finding a rhythm that works for you while remembering why you started and just taking things one step at a time.
For me, motivation stems from my goals: creating a better future for my family and setting a good example for my children. Every class I complete and every semester that passes brings me that much closer to my degree, steadily pushing me forward, and motivating me not to quit. I break down big tasks into smaller steps, celebrating every accomplishment, no matter how big or small. Adding routines and a daily calendar helps me stay organized among my many roles, whether I am carving out specific times for teaching, tutoring, studying, family, or rest.
Another essential part of staying motivated is understanding and using the resources the university provides. Tutoring, for example, isn’t just for students who are behind or struggling; it helps a variety of students improve their skills and deepen their understanding. ENMU offers a variety of tutoring services at no cost for in-person and remote students, making it easier to get help no matter where you are.
Communication with professors is also key. Reaching out with questions, clarifications, or to discuss deadlines can ease stress and keep you on track. Professors often appreciate proactive students and can offer guidance or flexibility when needed.
Surrounding myself with supportive people, like my husband and friends, also helps keep me grounded. And finally, I allow myself breaks and moments of self-care because burnout helps no one.
Staying motivated is a daily choice, but every small step brings me closer to my dreams.
