In a thrilling Week 1 showdown that no one saw coming, the Pittsburgh Steelers narrowly defeated the New York Jets 34–32 in East Rutherford. The game was full of momentum swings, explosive plays, and clutch performances, from players that have been counted out by the media.
Former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers made his Steelers debut unforgettable, tossing four touchdown passes and leading a late-game drive that set up a 60-yard field goal by Chris Boswell to seal the win. Rodgers was considered too old before the season started, and now he led the Steelers to a spectacular win over his old team.
Jets quarterback Justin Fields was also impressive in his own right after being benched by steelers last year, throwing for over 218 yards, with 48 rushing yards, one passing touchdown, and two rushing touchdowns against the Steelers. The Jets’ offense showed promise, but a late defensive stand by Pittsburgh shut the door.
Despite the loss, New York fans saw glimpses of a dynamic future that they haven’t seen in years. For Pittsburgh, it’s a strong start to the season, and a statement win led by a veteran with something to prove.
