Albuquerque has some of the most beautiful sunsets. The city is filled with mountains, hiking trails, hot springs, and miles of paved bike paths. Many college students don’t know the benefits of being outdoors and how much it can help their mental health. According to the University of California, being outdoors can also have relaxing effects on our minds. Nature can provide a mental break by temporarily escaping the demands of everyday life.
Students are so busy balancing their life through school, work, and everyday responsibilities in such a busy city that stress can feel unavoidable. One of the easiest ways to help stress is to step outdoors, breath some fresh air, and get some sunlight. Even just a short walk can make a difference.
One of the most popular spots is the Bosque Trail that is along the Rio Grande, where the trails are calm and quiet creating a break from the noisy city. Hearing the river can be calming to the brain.
The Sandia Foothills is a great spot for those who want a quick reset to their mental health. Just going on the trails can help clear and quiet the mind. The mountain views can remind you how big the world is and that there is so much more than just the daily stress of life.
Spending time outdoors can help reduce anxiety and stress, help with better sleep, and improve mood. For college students, spending time outdoors can help to manage stress. The American Heart Association research has shown that spending 120 minutes outdoors improves health and well-being. Albuquerque is one step away from being in nature all while being free and close to home.
