The 2026 Met Gala, planned for Monday May 4th, theme was recently announced as “Fashion Is Art”, a look into costume and art culture through fashion and bodily expression.
The Met Gala, or The Costume Institute Benefit, is an annual fundraiser held to mark the opening of The Costume Institute’s spring exhibition. Guests pay a ticket price of $75,000 to attend the Gala and support The Metropolitan Museum.
Over the years since the first benefit in 1948, the Met Gala has become one of the most important and impactful fashion events of the year. Where designers and celebrities alike use the evening to show off their own relationship with fashion and the chosen theme for the spring exhibition.
Some of the most notable themes include 2018’s “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” and 2024’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”. With outfits ranging from statement suits to gowns made completely of crystals and jewels.
Each costume is meant to focus on the theme provided and express what it means to each person attending. In 2024, Tyla made her debut at the “Garden of Time” Gala wearing a dress made to look like a sand filled hourglass. The dress even impacted her ability to walk, bringing to attention the restrictiveness of time and life.
This year Anna Wintour, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams will co-chair the event. All of these women are long standing attendees of the gala and hopefully, will lead us into another amazing night in fashion.
