Midterms can be one of the most stressful times of the semester, as it is for me. I currently work full-time at the Air Force Research Laboratory and have two small children and a husband at home. Working a full-time job while balancing family and school can make the pressure, stress, and anxiety feel even greater. Balancing work, home responsibilities, studying, and completing assignments takes a lot of time management and discipline. After working an eight-hour shift, it can be extremely hard to find the motivation and energy to complete class assignments or study, but it is possible.
One way that has helped me during midterms is by planning ahead and creating a schedule to keep all my classes on track. Being able to spread out assignments and create time for studying makes it feel less overwhelming. A good reminder is to never forget to take breaks and try to always have a good night’s sleep. According to Harvard, “Over the long term, chronic sleep deprivation can have a serious impact on your physical and mental health. Insufficient sleep has been linked, for example, to weight gain and obesity, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes.”
Midterms, working a full-time job and having a family can be challenging, but don’t lose hope and know that it’s possible. Study, work hard, and never underestimate a good night’s rest.
