Eating healthy may seem impossible to many students, the days go by fast and it may seem like there is no time for healthy eating. College students are juggling early classes, working full-time jobs, and staying up late to have a social life or completing assignments. With so much going on fast food becomes the easier option. Medical News Today says, “Fast food is typically high in calories and lacks the nutritional value of whole foods. Evidence suggests that overeating commercial fast-food products can negatively impact health in both the short- and long-term”. One of the easiest ways to stay on top of healthy eating is meal prepping for the week. Giving yourself one day out of the week where you can make homemade meals can make a huge difference. Simply cooking foods like chicken, rice, pasta, vegetables, and more can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge for the week. This is not only healthier for you, but it is also cheaper and saves you time on busy days without having to stop anywhere for food. Another option is to pack a quick snack to avoid eating fast food or to drink water rather than sugary drinks. The University of Harvard states “Different kinds of foods are converted to energy at different rates, some — such as candy and other simple sugars — can give you a quick lift, while others — such as whole grains and healthy unsaturated fats — supply the reserves you’ll need to draw on throughout the day”. Eating healthy does not have to be perfect but small changes can add up and can help students feel better through the day.
