Albuquerque will be hosting their yearly event, Run for the Zoo, on May 3rd, 2026, this will be their 39th annual run. The reason behind this event is to help support the ABQ BioPark staff care for the animals, as it helps them to purchase enrichment items, vet care equipment, education outreach and more.
On their webpage they offer different options to register for. They have the half marathon, which is a 3 ½ hour course, a 10k timed run, a 5k timed run, a 5k fitness run/walk and a one-mile fun run/walk that takes you on an adventure through the zoo that majority of families pick, such as myself. This one-mile fun run/walk is a great option for people who have small children as it takes you behind the scenes of some of the habitats and lets you see different animals up close. Run for the zoo is an opportunity for the community to come together and help a good cause. I recommend for everyone to at least try out once. Even if you are not a runner, try it for the experience.
