With the weather warming up and the sun shining longer, it is time to hit some hiking trails. Take an early morning or afternoon and enjoy nature and get a little exercise. The Sacramento Mountains have multiple options for hiking trails. One of my favorites is Bridal Veil Falls. It is a 1.2-mile hike over a mixture of steep terrain and flat creek side trails northwest of Cloudcroft. It follows along the old logging train tracks that used to bring people to the tall cool pines for rest and relaxation in the highest peaks of Otero County. The reward, besides exercise and fresh air, is the gorgeous waterfall. There is something soothing about watching water fall down the cliff into the stream in the shady bottom of Fresnal Canyon. It is the perfect spot to cool off in the water before trekking back out to the real world. With the sun setting later in the day and perfect temperatures, go check out some hiking trails and find some hidden treasures.
