Tax season is upon us, and ENMU is offering a program to help students prepare free of cost.
Free Tax Preparation with AARP (FTP) is offered through ENMU. AARP is offered for the elderly and the low income; it is open to anyone in the community that may meet the specific requirements for it. This service is available to all students that will be filing simple tax returns for 2021.
When coming into AARP you will need to bring all the documents you have received from the local/state taxing authorities. Students will also need to bring their social security card, for taxpayer identification purposes, as well as a government issued ID.
All applications will receive a quality review, to ensure no details are missed. Applicants will have a chance to ensure that everything is correct before signing on EFILE to complete the application.
These tax preparers ensure that students who fulfill the requirements will not have to complete the difficult and often times confusing work on their own.
In order to qualify for FTP, students must be filing single, with no complicated tax returns. That unfortunately means that International Students, and those filing as married or head of household, will not be eligible.
Any further questions or concerns, including if you meet the criteria or not, can be directed to Professor Corey Cole is the site coordinator for this program.
AARP is open now at ENMU until April 13. They will be closed for the week of spring break March 14-18)
They can be found in the College of Business, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1- 4 p.m.
