ENMU’s Student Government Association is giving students a voice in how their University is governed and encouraging them to take action to enhance their experience at ENMU.
The SGA is very active in student affairs. They host many student events such as Mud Volleyball, Eastern in Action, Student Concerns Forums and many others.
The ENMU SGA is made up of three branches of government, the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch.
The Executive Branch of Student Government is run by the Student Body President, currently Cameron Colson. Colson and his team are the main voice for the Student Government as well as the entire Student body, and facilitate many of the day-to-day operations, initiatives, and student activities.
The Legislative Branch of Student Government is headed by the Student Body Vice President, currently Tamia Smith. Smith and her branch run the Student Senate whose meetings are open to the public. They are also in charge of facilitating appropriations of fund to organizations on campus when requests are brought in.
The Judicial Branch of Student Government is led by the Chief Justice and includes other justices as well as some support staff. Their job is to “afford due process and hearings for formal grievances filed against the ENMU SGA or within its own association that fall within its scope of responsibility”.
The SGA is hosting Student Government Elections Monday April 11 at 12 pm through Friday, April 15 at 5 pm.
These elections are to fill the positions of Student Body President, Student Body Vice President, Student Public Defender, and the 56th Student Senate. The Student Senate is comprised of 5 senators from each of the following colleges: College of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Education and Technology, and the College of Fine Arts. The Student Body Vice President will select Freshman senators, who must then be approved by a two thirds majority vote of the Student Senate.
The Final Election results will be posted on or before Friday, April 22, 2022 by 5pm, and newly elected officials will take office on Saturday May 14, 2022.
Since Declarations of Candidacy have been submitted, you should expect to begin seeing your fellow classmates campaigning. Read up and get ready to vote!
