ENMU Sports Spout of a Busy April

It’s been a busy spring for the hounds as ENMU saw three new sporting seasons pick up.

The hounds have been grinding this baseball season, collecting a record of 11-17 in conference play as of the end of March.

When asked about the season so far, Cooper Hamilton, a sophomore outfielder said,” We are doing pretty good, a lot better than the last few years, and we have a chance to make it to the conference tournament.”

This is exciting news for hound nation, just as exciting as stand out moments like the 3-game win streak in the series against UT Tyler.

When asking Hamilton about what the next games look like he told me, “The rest of the season is going to be pretty tough, we have to play the three top teams in the conference”.

ENMU track and field has also been in full swing this spring, crushing the competition in the recent meets. Lauren Griego, a junior distance runner on the team said, “This track season has been difficult to say the least, with the passing of one of our own and now coach Kavalunas being fired.”

Despite their hardships, the track and field hounds still managed to pull through. Griego says it’s the team’s  unity she loves the most, and she is excited that coach Kavalunas is able to stay and finish the season with the team.

Griego also had a standout season of her own, taking 22 seconds off her mile during the 2022 indoor season.

“Now going outdoor I’m excited to start competing again and really show how great of a coach we have been blessed with.” Griego says.

The team has also had multiple top 10 finishes, and saw Mary Seema win the 800.

Last but certainly not least is the lady hound’s softball team, who came off an electrifying weekend going 1-1 with ST. Edwards in Austin, TX. A few of their upcoming home games  include Oklahoma Christian, Cameron, and Texas women’s university. These hounds still have a long season to go and are excited to see what comes next.

Football will also be starting their season at the end of the semester with their intersquad scrimmage on April 29.
