Eastern New Mexico University is partnering with the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration once again, and they’ve begun accepting applicants for the Winter/Spring 2023 semester.
To qualify for the study-abroad program, students must have completed their freshman year of college. A passport and a GPA of at least 2.8 are also required. Students should demonstrate fluency in the primary language used for education by their host institution. Transcripts may also be requested.
For students interested in studying abroad, the initial deadline for application to CONAHEC was Sept. 15, but there is a potential deadline extension to Oct. 15 if there is remaining availability. Even if you miss both deadlines, don’t worry, because CONAHEC accepts applications at the beginning of most semesters!
Applications are forwarded to the student’s institution of choice, which is solely responsible for accepting or declining applicants.
“Once they decide to accept a student, they will contact the student directly,” said Dr. Mei Reeder, coordinator of international affairs at ENMU.
Participants in the student exchange program will be given a unique opportunity to experience another nation’s culture and expand their own worldview.
Students may select their host institution from a large international consortium of universities which cooperates with ENMU. Students may study in countries such as Spain, Germany, Canada, and South Korea, among many others.
Universities in the consortium exchange their own students to ENMU from overseas as well and attempt to keep the number of incoming and exchanged students as close to equal as possible.
“More than often, we have students from South Korea,” said Reeder.
CONAHEC has an upper limit of 25 participants each for both incoming students and those travelling abroad. However, ENMU’s CONAHEC program seldom exceeds 3 participants per semester for both incoming and outgoing students, so there should be no shortage of openings.
CONAHEC is coordinated by ENMU’s Department of Academic Affairs/International Education. Students may apply at the International Programs Office or online. Digital applications should be sent to mei.reeder@enmu.edu.
