With March being Women’s History Month, ENMU has set up several events that students can attend to celebrate and recognize contributions and achievements women have made to contribute to society. The theme set by the National Women’s History Alliance for the month is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories.” It will recognize women who played an active participant in all forms of media.
Women’s History Month began as Women’s History Week in 1978 in Santa Rosa, California. Presentations were given where people could participate in essay contests and a parade. Soon after, other communities began to follow along until it was internationally recognized. Six years after President Carter declared the week of March 8th being National Women’s History week, the National Women’s History Project petitioned to have it cover the entire month of March.
Many of the events around ENMU campus will surround different cultures and how women have shaped their communities. From Navajo Nation to Japan, we will have the opportunity to listen to stories and learn about how these women experience everyday life.
