In southeastern New Mexico, we know its springtime when the wind starts blowing! Along with the promise of warmer weather, the wind can bring with it many allergens, dry skin, and dirt that always finds its way into our homes. So, here are some tips and hacks to stay on your toes when the wind starts to blow.
Invest in a humidifier. This gadget comes in handy when spring rolls around. It keeps the air in your space from getting too dry, which will help to alleviate dry sinuses, skin, and lips.
Check seals on doors and windows. The dirt from the wind (and all the yucky stuff in the dirt) can come in through poorly sealed doors and windows, causing allergies and a dusty home. Caulking, taping, or slide-on seals can help to minimize the amount of dirt when it starts getting windy outside.
Hydrate! In addition to hydrating your air with a humidifier, hydrating your body, skin, and lips is a great way to combat the drying spring wind. Using body lotion after showering, moisturizing your face in the morning and night, and using a moisturizing lip balm will help keep sensitive skin from cracking and flaking as we move into the warmer months. However, using topical balms and potions to hydrate will only do so much. Your organs and mucus membranes also need moisture to stay healthy. Drinking the proper amounts of water daily will do wonders to keep you happy and healthy in the dry desert we call home.
