Social media has taken a huge role in relationships and how they operate in this modern day and age.
Not only does it have the power to create love stories, but also the power to destroy them.
These positive and negative effects vary from each individual and each relationship.
There are different ways social media has helped and encouraged relationships. There are apps or websites created to be able to connect people from all over the world. It can start with a direct message sent to your profile or a simple swipe. Either way, you have the ability to connect.
Another way social media is very beneficial when it comes to relationships is the ability and comfort of communication.
As human beings, we can struggle with fully expressing our emotions. We also struggle with communicating the correct and more effective way to be understood.
There are many ways to communicate, but not many effective ways in which you can express what you truly need.
Communicating through social media gives you the courage to express what you could not in person. With this sense of courage, you later find your voice and have no need to hide behind a screen, but be confident in expressing yourself.
There are also negative effects of how social media can take over a relationship.
Whether this be a romantic relationship or with a family member, social media can take time away from them.
We all know social media is very influential but also very time consuming. There are a countless number of platforms from which people can choose from.
Every day new and creative content is uploaded to these platforms, which can be seen by anybody at any time of day.
We have extremely wide access to social media in the touch, swipe, lift of a finger and in our front pocket.
As amazing as social media is, it takes hours away from family and loved ones, time you can not get back.
Another effect of social media is the culture influenced image of what a happy person in any relationship should look like. The comparison of anybody’s life to your own can cause frustration.
Comparison is something that has been around for a long time when it comes to social media. There are people in the world who decide to post stories or updates on their lives, with or without wanting to have an effect on people.
What other people post is not what everyone is living, the love stories and loving relationships are not portrayed as they are in reality.
This can cause many relationships to be compared to others in the social media world and come to an end.
Do not let social media dictate the future of your relationships. Let it be used in a positive and uplifting way that can benefit your established and upcoming interactions.
