Spring break has come to an end for all and it was probably a great week. Out at the farm breaks aren’t allowed. My brother’s daily routine stayed the same, other than Thursday he took a trip to Lubbock to enjoy the day. We had a big breakfast at the Pancake House and enjoyed shopping for a few hours. We arrived back home around 6:30 or 7 and he went straight to the farm to check on his animals.
With the sun going down later he is able to go later or earlier to get more work done or enjoy the evening. He bought some sheep and fed them two small square bales of alfalfa. As of now he owns 45 sheep and they ate the bales in less than twelve hours.
Today they bought hay bales in Stephenville so unloading them was the main task for the day. To unload they basically get in the trailer and push the bale out. If they are able to push it out and roll it some more they don’t need to move the trailer forward. This morning he went ahead and doctored the goats and made sure all were good and healthy. Afterwards, he went to pick up some corn and stayed busy throughout the day. Currently he picks up the corn at a business in town called Maseca. They load bags of corn and he has to carefully drive back to the ranch so no bags fall out. He has had cases fall before and spill and of course that doesn’t end well.
Work is picking up and he is ready to be busy all day since most days morning and evenings stay still. So far he his doing great and helping along with hauling his own goats. Recently he was able to get a trailer that was actually the very first trailer my grandpa used to start his business.
