The “hush money” trial has started, involving one of the candidates for the presidency of the United states of America, Donald J. Trump, in one of the most important trials. For those of who do not know what this revolves around, it is simply put as the former President Donald Trump paying someone off to not release information and to simply keep quiet. However the reason this has been covered so much by the media is for misuse of funds, meaning Donald Trump used money from his campaign to pay for the silence of adult film star Stormy Daniels.
Stormy Daniels stated “I received one hundred thirty thousand dollars ($130,000) to keep quiet”. The main reason why former president trump is being prosecuted is because of the misuse of funds, which is illegal in the United States. At the start of the trial, the whole first day has been spent trying to find a jury, however, there is a big problem when it comes to pick and choosing a jury for this particular case. You may be asking yourself. Why is it so hard to select a jury for this trial? Well the reason for a trial to be carried out as fairly as possible is because there has to be an impartial jury, this being to not know the person who is in trial.
This is where things get complicated, due to the fact that everyone knows the former president of the United States. As the jury was asked about being impartial (not leaning toward or being completely on one side) when the trial took place, from the fifty to sixty jurors most of them said they could not be impartial. Up until this day, both sides of the trial are continuing to find the right set of people to become the jurors of this high profile trial. With the elections coming up in November, it is crunch time for former President Trump’s defense team to get this trial going. While it is still months away there are only two outcomes that could come out of this trial. One being winning the case and going on to the election time as a free man, or having lost the case and Donald J. Trump is going to jail or prison for the actions committed. In which case the Republican party will have to appoint a new candidate to go up against Joe Biden for the presidency in November.
