Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) hosted its annual High School Art & Design Festival last weekend, introducing hundreds of students to the distinguished programs offered by ENMU’s Department of Art.
Various workshops took place across the weekend, including an introduction to chainmaille by Professor Greg Senn and a reductive charcoal portrait session with Professor Britta Urness. The festival began at noon on April 11 and continued across two and a half days, giving attendees the opportunity to see the full variety of opportunities offered at ENMU.
April 6, on the morning of the final day of the High School Art & Design Festival, attendees were invited to have their artwork portfolios professionally reviewed by professors from the Department of Art. Certain outstanding students were offered scholarship funds as a result of their portfolio submission, making the program more than worthwhile for those with artistic talent disadvantaged by typical scholarship criteria.
Beyond workshops and professional guidance, the festival offers attendees a chance to witness incredible performances and to take part in hands-on demonstrations. We can expect to see the High School Art & Design Festival take place next year — and it’s safe to say that artistically-inclined rising seniors have plenty to look forward to.
