In their final home game of the 2024 season, the ENMU men’s soccer team fell short, facing off against the Midwestern State University (MSU) Mustangs. It was a bitter cold night in Portales with just enough halt in the rainstorm for this game to stay dry. The Greyhounds took control of the board first with a goal by junior forward Ben Sauerländer in the 39th minute of the match. This goal was assisted by Nathan Le Roux and Alexandre Meres just before the end of the first half.
The Greyhounds seemed to be ending the half in a good spot up by one goal to none; however, this didn’t last long. Five minutes after Sauerländer’s goal, with just three seconds left to play in the half, the Mustangs found the back of the net. This ended the half with the score tied one to one. After both the Greyhounds and the Mustangs regrouped during the break, they hit the field again. Unlike the first half, where both teams sparked their offense late, the second half instantly saw a goal. Unfortunately for the Greyhounds, it was MSU’s forward Liam Kervick that scored on ENMU’s freshman goalkeeper Milo Paci.
There were no other goals from either team after this, leading to a loss for ENMU’s men’s soccer team. This leaves their conference record at 2-4-1 as they approach the last game of their season against Lubbock Christian University. They’ll be on the road to Lubbock, Texas to play on Wednesday, November 6th at 6 p.m. in the Greyhounds final game of the 2024 season.
