Buc-ee’s isn’t just a gas station—it’s a destination. The Texas-based chain has built a loyal fan base with its massive stores, endless snack options, and famously clean restrooms.
Founded in 1982 by Arch “Beaver” Aplin III and Don Wasek, Buc-ee’s started as a small convenience store in Clute, Texas. Today, its locations span over 50,000 square feet, offering brisket sandwiches, dozens of fudge flavors, and Beaver Nuggets—sweet, caramel-coated corn puffs with a near-cult following.
Unlike typical gas stations, Buc-ee’s prioritizes cleanliness. Its restrooms, which won the Cintas America’s Best Restroom award in 2012, are known for being spotless, with floor-to-ceiling stalls and around-the-clock maintenance.
For many travelers, stopping at Buc-ee’s is a road trip ritual.
“If someone hasn’t been to Buc-ee’s, they just don’t get it,” said Rachel Evans, a frequent traveler from Austin, Texas, in an interview with The Dallas Morning News. “It’s not just a gas station—it’s an experience.”
With locations expanding beyond Texas, Buc-ee’s continues to redefine the roadside stop.
