This Saturday, I shelled out $24 to go see the live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in theaters. This was the first movie I’ve seen in theaters in over a year, and the trailer gave me high hopes that it would be worth the price. Here’s my review of the film and if it’s something you should see!
The first thing I noticed was the overuse of CGI on the dwarfs. They looked a little creepy, and I wish they had just cast actors instead of this CGI route. It reminded me a bit of the infamous baby Renesmee from Twilight. Otherwise, the effects were beautiful, and I thought it was a very pretty movie overall.
The casting was spot on. From the voices of the dwarfs, to Rachel Zegler as Snow and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. I particularly enjoyed Andrew Burnap as Grumpy, and Ansu Kabia’s Huntsman. Zegler and Gadot had some amazing musical numbers as well. While some have complained about changing races in newer Disney live-action movies, I thought the casting in this remake was phenomenal.
If you’ve seen the original animated movie, and think you can skip this one, I would tell you you’re wrong. The director and writers changed parts of the plot, including making Snow less of a damsel-in-distress. While certain points felt a little drawn out, the songs and new plot make up for it.
Overall, I really enjoyed Snow White. I think it will go down as a classic. If you enjoy beautiful music numbers, pretty filmmaking, and fun adventures, Snow White is one you’ll want to see.
