For young adults looking to make a difference while gaining valuable hands-on work experience, AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) offers a unique opportunity. This federal program provides opportunities for 18- to 26-year-olds to serve their country, address the nation’s most pressing challenges, and improve lives and communities.
When joining AmeriCorps NCCC, members commit to 10 months of service where they will be living and working in teams of about 8 to 12 people. Each team travels to project sites throughout the country to complete service projects in disaster relief, environmental conservation, infrastructure improvement, and more. During the program members earn a modest living and food stipend and are provided shared housing. Through their work, members will gain a strong sense of community and civic responsibility as well as skills in teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving, experiences that will benefit them in future careers. Upon completion of the program members receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award which can be used to help pay for educational opportunities and student loans.
Many alumni say the experience helped strengthen their résumés and changed their perspective on service and community engagement. For those looking to challenge themselves while giving back, AmeriCorps NCCC offers an unforgettable experience.
