Eastern New Mexico Universities Homecoming is back and right around the corner, getting the students here on campus are very excited.
This year’s candidates for Homecoming King and Queen have been announced and all of Eastern has been buzzing. There has been a lot of campaigning and the candidates are making their case as to why they would be the right choice for whatever they might be running for. I have had the privilege of interviewing some of these candidates.
Alexandra Sena, a Senior majoring in Theater with a minor in Digital Film Making here at Eastern is one of the Candidates running for Homecoming Queen. “It doesn’t matter who you are or what your background is, as long as you have the passion and the drive, any opportunity can come to you.” Sena enjoys getting to know all the students around campus and especially appreciates sharing her passion for the University. Rodriguez in involved in a few different things and is looking at homecoming as a way to further be involved on campus. In an interview with Rodriguez, she expressed that coming to ENMU specifically, has taught her a lot. “You don’t get lost in being a number because it is so small and personal.” Rodriguez continues, “You get out what you put in, and Eastern has taught me to be a better leader.” She encourages all students to be the best version of themselves that they can be.
Kevin Mendiola, a senior majoring in Spanish with a minor in Communications here at Eastern, is one of the candidates running for Homecoming King. Mendiola has been a part of many different organizations and wants to spread the word about those organizations on campus. “I love how united this campus is.” Mendiola said. Mendiola emphasizes that everyone should look into joining some club or organization to get the best Eastern experience.
Samuel Coronado, a Senior majoring in Psychology with minors in Chemistry and Spanish here at Eastern is another candidate running for Homecoming King. Coronado loves the students at ENMU and wants them to know that, “there is someone that loves each and every student at Eastern.” Coronado says, “I am a student, so I support the students.” This candidate is always trying make sure he can let as many people as he can know that, “They are capable, they are valued, they are appreciated.” All these candidates have a great passion for ENMU that shows in their character and the messages they want to spread. The love the student body has shown to this University especially after the year-long break from campus in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic is remarkable and these candidates embody that love.
