Eastern New Mexico University has multiple sport teams that are in full swing this spring semester, with some that have already begun and a few that are starting soon.
Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams are on the court, having started their seasons late in the fall, and finishing it off this spring. Upcoming home games include women’s basketball on Feb. 5, and men’s on Feb. 3.
The baseball team started their season on Feb. 4 with an away game in Austin, Texas.
Kian Johnston, a Junior from British Columbia, is a redshirt on the baseball team this year. Johnston says he has been preparing himself for a big comeback this season.
“I have been working out and getting into a routine and the feel of things,” Johnston said.
The women’s softball team also started their season with an away game in Albuquerque N.M. on Feb. 3.
The track team and Cross-country team have thrown themselves into the race, setting multiple program records already, most recently at the MLK invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
The men’s and women’s rodeo teams have been practicing daily in the Lewis-Cooper Rodeo Arena in anticipation of the start their spring season on Feb. 24 in Odessa, Texas.
Rowdy Norwood of the men’s rodeo team, is a Junior from Amarillo, Texas. His main event is steer wrestling, and he says that he is feeling confident for this spring season, since he’s been practicing almost everyday since the fall rodeos ended in October. He says making sure his horses are in great shape to be able to carry him through the season has been a major priority.
