We are right around the corner from basketball games being back in Greyhound Arena. Let’s take a look at what we can expect from our Men’s and Women’s teams.
On the Men’s side, Brent Owens has a promising team in the works. They were ranked 8th in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll. This is an improvement from last year, moving up seven from last year’s preseason poll. He also has good experience coming back on the hardwood with seven returners. Out of the seven, four collected Lone Star Conference Awards last year. One returner, Jahcoree Ealy, was recognized as a Lone Star Conference player to watch. Last year, he averaged 12.7 points per game and had a strong presence on defense. Owens has also added two new members to his staff, assistant coaches Tyrone Grady and César Luján-Flores.
On the women’s side, there are some new faces. Head Coach Blake Huber joined the Lady Greyhound in the summer along with his assistant coach, Chris Burks. They received an 11th position ranking in the preseason polls. Along with the new coaching staff, the women’s team has welcomed 12 new recruits to campus this fall. Four seasoned returners are also rolling with the hounds. This includes Ashley Shipley and Deja Adrian, both of whom led ENMU in scoring last season. Adrian was also named a Lone Star Conference Player to Watch for this season.
The hounds will kick on their season at home on Nov. 10th. The Women will play Fort Lewis at 2:30, and the Men will play New Mexico Highlands at 7:30.
