The 2024 greyhound football team was victorious in the home opener versus Sul Ross State University on Saturday, September 7th. Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium welcomed back the Eastern fans, not without a few hiccups, as the game was delayed an hour due to the Sul Ross bus breaking down on their way to Portales. The greyhounds jumped ahead of the lobos early, leading 22-3 at the half. The lobos cut down the lead in the third quarter scoring seven unanswered points. The greyhounds rallied back in the fourth to score two more touchdowns which ended the game with a final score of 36-17. Stars of the game were full back Ron Craten and quarterback Mario Sanchez. Craten had 141 yards and two touchdowns, while Sanchez had 46 passing yards and one rushing touchdown. The greyhounds are currently 2-0 after Saturday’s victory. They will be on the road to Angelo State University for another Lone Star Conference matchup Saturday, September 14th
