Come one, come all, to the Haunted Circus!
On Friday, October 25th, the Circus of Horror came rolling into Clovis to dazzle the residents with a scary acrobatic experience. The traveling circus stayed through the following Sunday, performing multiple times each night in their big top. The act was 18+, but it was more for sexual content than any real gore. One audience member mentioned she thought the show should have been listed as PG-13.
The act consisted of a dead ringleader performing skits with audience participation, amazing jugglers, wonderful silks and ring gymnastic performances, and a clown show. The music and lighting were dark and Halloween-approved, and the crowd was small enough that you felt as if the ringleader would pick on you at any moment. There were actors walking around to entertain guests during breaks, and the costume design was better than expected for a low-budget traveling circus.
In one skit, the ringleader chose Matt Jackson to participate as the director of a slasher film. Jackson and three other audience members laughed as they were directed by the ringleader for the crowd’s entertainment. Jackson struggled to put on pieces of a costume provided, but he was having a fun time with his given script. Another memorable act was when some actors swung over the crowd on a giant pendulum swing, and leapt into the air and through a ring.
Tickets were reasonably priced, concessions were good offering snacks, beer and souvenirs, and the experience was exciting. Don’t miss the Circus of Horror next year!
