Picture it: a Sunday afternoon in Clovis or Portales. The coffee’s hot, the snacks are out, and the
room is filled with laughter, half-finished chapters, and passionate debate about a plot twist no
one saw coming.
This is “Between the Covers,” a monthly book club built on friendship, food, and the freedom to
express yourself through reading.
Founded in 2022 by Marcella LairdGronsky and now co-run with Kayla Reichenbach, “Between
the Covers” is an all-people, all-genre adult book club that meets every last Sunday of the month.
Some months it’s fantasy. Other months it’s romance, horror, literary fiction, or something weird
found on a thrift store shelf. There’s no formula, just good stories and good company.
Each month, the group discusses a selected book—sometimes it’s a single pick, and other times
there’s an optional bonus read for those who want a little more. Meetings rotate between
members’ homes and local coffee shops or sandwich spots. No pressure, no pop quizzes, just
open-ended conversation, the kind that sticks with you long after the book is back on the shelf.
It’s not an official campus group. It’s something quieter, cozier, and real. A reminder that even
as adults, we still need stories, and we still need each other.
If that sounds like your kind of vibe, consider this your invitation to look up “Between the
Covers” on Facebook and join us.
