I know what i’m about to type cannot be disagreeable. Everyone loves food. Who doesn’t? So why wouldn’t animals? The point in waking up early in the mornings and heading out to the farm Is because the animals need food and water. How else are we going to make it through?
We always forget how much meals are important for our bodies, they’re also important for animals. I’m sure we have all seen our dogs begging for food at the table during dinner time or side eyeing our plate if they’re close by. Sometimes I even see our dog sniffing trying to figure out what it is she smells!
The cows get fed twice a day. Usually water is getting filled up while anyone is feeding. During the summer it can get harder to keep the tanks full since it’s so hot out. But usually someone will go out mid day to check on the animals. My brother gets up early every morning and the first thing he does is go out to the farm to feed. Heck, sometimes he forgets to eat himself. There’s definitely no telling how many meals he skips due to being busy on the farm or doing service on the trucks or trailers.
The cows eat a variety of silage with corn and sometimes molasses. That’s right! The stuff we sometimes bake with is used to feed animals. Usually there is a truck that is premixed to be able to feed faster, but some days they have to stay out later to make feed for the next day. They pick and choose when to pick their poison. Stay late in the afternoon to finish early the next morning, or stay late in the morning to leave early in the afternoon.
Since I was little I was out in the pens with my grandparents helping them out! Same thing with my brother, but this time it stuck with him and it’s more important to care for the animals than ever before. My whole family is involved, but I am able to notice the huge impact it has on my brother and how it is going to be in his future.
